Lula da Silva: Neoliberalism has further worsened economic inequality
Brazil, 16 June (Hibya) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva shared excerpts from his speech at the G7 meeting.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva recalled that he first attended the G8 Summit in 2003 as President of Brazil, noting that since then he has participated in nine G7 or G8 summits.
He stated that global problems affecting millions of people were encountered at these summits, but that lasting and collective solutions could not be produced, criticizing the elevation of market liberalization and austerity policies as ends in themselves.
Lula da Silva argued that neoliberalism has deepened economic inequality and political crises, saying: “Neoliberalism has further worsened the economic inequality and political crisis that now engulf democracies. Now protectionism and unilateralism are re-emerging as misguided responses to the complexity of our problems.”
